Longing
In the long crisp night, I with a butterscotch candy
Sang out into the blues
It was upon me and I was not ready for it
It was within me
And I could not shake it
for it was only you
You were long and far away
You were gone and the stars were the only brightness upon
My weary face
You would soon come my way
I could feel your breath and your warmth...
And that was just too much
I could see your eyes
As though you were right there
I could feel you my love
But you were no where
I could see you in the shadows passing by
I thought I heard you whisper
And inside, I started to shake and cry
I wanted to find you and tell you of my despair
I wanted to whisper again, I love you
As I was hypnotized by the scents of your soft, long hair
I wanted you and your arms around my belly holding tight
But my darling, my love, you were no where near me tonight
I held my pillow late into the morning
I held it until I heard the angels sing
You were crying for me
And that was the voice I had heard with the breeze
The voice soft and lonely, saying please
Where will I find the courage to kneel before you and take your hand
And say I love you more than any other man
How can I wait any longer
With the confusion that mistakes itself for some off color
I want to look into your eyes and see you if I can
For without you, I am nothing, and I am not even a man
But a shrinking voice and a lost soul
For the wind could never bring another to comfort me
The ours grow longer, and the days shorter
The follies are not as funny and life knows too many borders
So I prepare myself for the day we'll meet
And tempt myself with the confusion and sour
Still sour and sweet
Sang out into the blues
It was upon me and I was not ready for it
It was within me
And I could not shake it
for it was only you
You were long and far away
You were gone and the stars were the only brightness upon
My weary face
You would soon come my way
I could feel your breath and your warmth...
And that was just too much
I could see your eyes
As though you were right there
